It is time to share a project we have been working on for several months. And, that is Dr Bob’s Book Blog. Basically, it is a collection of Reviews of 30+ books mostly from current times, with a few going back into past centuries. These are substantial essays, 1–3 pages each. Day or night, they can be found at http://peoplemedicine.net/bookblog.html

If you have any interest in Health and Healing, Medicine and Illness, you can get quick run-downs on numerous excellent books. (There are a couple exceptions in the bunch.) You may even learn a few things by merely reading these short pieces. You also may be stirred to take the time to read the whole of one or more of these titles.

At the moment, there are 11 categories:

Cayce Medicine –– Great Physicians –– Heroic Medicine –– Holistic Medicine

McMedicine –– Neurological Notes –– Nurse’s Notes –– Psych. Scripts

Psychic Surgery –– Surgeon Stories –– Wounded Healers

Wounded Healers is the latest grouping to be added and it may be of most interest to lay readers. Book Reviews include the story of Jacques Lusseyran who was blinded at an early age and yet became a leader of the French Resistance during WWII. Another about the life of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, told by her husband Mark Kelly. Yet another on Superman — Christopher Reeve’s journey before and after the injury which made him quadriplegic. The last book read and reviewed may be the favorite of the dozens posted. It is called The Blue Cord. The story is similar to Reeve’s but one in which the author Laurel Duran makes a slow, painful, but full recovery.

From the professional angle, there are reviews on books by Oliver Sacks, Richard Selzer, Robert Mendelsohn (The Medical Heretic), Lynne McTaggart — and about Paracelsus, Mesmer, and Florence Nightingale, Brazil’s psychic surgeons and prominent holistic healers

Before long, Reviews will appear on Surgery: The Ultimate Placebo and one on Mark Twain’s experiences with medicine.

Comments are always welcome. They may be sent to this theportableschool at gmail dot com and will receive prompt response. We also are happy to consider Reviewing your own book or one you recommend.

To you expanding Health,

Dr. Bob
